Congratulations! If you’re reading this, it means you’ve reached that exciting milestone where your braces are off or you’ve finished your last set of Invisalign® aligners. We are so proud of you and the progress we've made together.
Now, we want to make sure your teeth stay in their new positions. Think of your retainer as the "insurance policy" for your smile. It takes a little time for the bone and gums to settle around your teeth, and your retainer is there to guide them.
What Kind of Retainer Is Right for You?
Every smile is unique, so we offer a few different ways to keep yours looking its best. Whether you are finishing Invisalign® treatment or braces, we’ll help you choose the one that fits your lifestyle.
Removable Clear Retainers (Essix)
These are very popular because they look just like the clear aligners you might have used during your treatment. They are nearly invisible and fit snugly over your teeth. Most people won't even know you're wearing them
- Quick Tip: Because they are clear, they are easy to lose if you wrap them in a napkin at lunch. Always keep them in your case!
Fixed or "Permanent" Retainers
A fixed retainer is a small, thin wire bonded to the back of your teeth (usually the bottom ones).
You never have to remember to put it in! It stays there 24/7 to keep things steady. However, it does take a little extra love when you brush and floss. You’ll want to use a floss threader to get into those tight spaces.
How Do I Take Care of My Retainer?
We want to make sure you have all the retainer instructions you need to keep your appliance clean and your breath fresh. A gentle brush with a soft toothbrush and cool water usually does the trick. Remember, if it’s not in your face, it should be in your case!
If you ever have a question about how your retainer fits, or if it happens to break, don’t stress — we can help. Just give us a call at our South Bend, Granger, or Goshen office, and we will get you sorted out.
Retainers Reviews
Absolutely fantastic customer service and professionalism. I have been a patient since 2002 when I initially got my orthodontics treatment for TMJ. Extremely patient and effective treatments for a very sensitive problem. To say they went out of their way is an understatement. Treatment and orthodontia was completed around 2005 but they still welcome me back and adjust the splints and retainers as things arise. If only all areas of business and other health services could operate in this fashion and courtesy
4 out of 5 family members are Invisalign clients, and lost aligners and retainers are, well, a thing. Thank you to the fabulous Robin and the rest of the Hacken staff for a judgment-free zone and helping in those panicky what-should-we-do moments!
My new retainers just came in today, and let me tell you they are excellent! I came in to replace my old ones after they broke, and even though it had been about three years since I last saw Dr. Hacken, the staff and nurses took wonderful care of me and were extremely kind. During my consultation, doctor came in personally to make sure everything looked good. He went above and beyond, even making a few adjustments to improve my smile even more. My whole family has gone through their office, and we all have a great smile thanks to them. I’m so happy with the results and fully recommend them!
